Questions
Is Settl free?
Yes. Splitting, groups, balances, imports, insights and Scrooge's basic assistant are free. A paid Settl Plus with AI features is planned; the core will stay free.
Does Settl hold my money?
No. Settl only records who owes what. When you settle, it opens your own UPI app with the details filled in, and the money goes straight to your friend.
Can I move from Splitwise?
Yes. Export a group or friend from Splitwise as a spreadsheet and import it in Settl. Balances come over exactly.
Do my friends need the app?
No. Add them by name and number. They can join later from a WhatsApp invite and everything you split moves to their account.
Is Settl open source?
Yes. Settl is free and open source, and always will be. You can read the code, suggest changes, or run your own copy.
Which UPI apps work?
Any UPI app. On Android Settl opens the system chooser; on iPhone you pick Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm. You can always copy the UPI ID or scan a QR instead.
